| Arts Horizons is committed to bringing the arts to children with Autism and has been listed as a Community resource by 'Autism Speaks'. Through music, visual arts, dance and drama, children with ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) are given the freedom to create, explore and discover new ways of expression. By way of this artistic self discovery, the arts provide meaningful opportunities to stimulate communication, social and academic skills. 'Autism Speaks' Family Services is dedicated to providing information and resources to improve the lives of children with autism. See the Arts Horizons listing on the Autism Speaks website. Through the Special Education Artist Academy (SEAA), Arts Horizons is leading an innovative training intensive for Teaching Artists on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Truly a one of a kind program, this tiered training model provides mentorship, practicum experience and professional development to support best practices in special education and the arts. Residency practicum sites are offered in music, dance and theater arts in collaboration with NYC Special Education District 75 and use the arts to enrich learning and support individual education outcomes for students with Autism.
